Kazakhstan — Jordan: New Horizons of Cooperation — Aq Jol
On August 26–27, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, His Majesty King Abdullah II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan paid an official visit to Kazakhstan. The distinguished guest was personally welcomed by the President at Astana airport, reports the socio-political newspaper Aq Jol, citing the Akorda press service. During the visit, the heads of state held high-level talks aimed at further strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres and participated in the “Kazakhstan — Jordan” Business Forum.
Jordan is a country in the Middle East with a rich history and culture, recognized by the international community as a nation committed to peace and stability. Earlier this year, in February, President Tokayev visited the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and was ceremoniously received by King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Hussein. “The purpose of my visit is to give a new impetus to our relations, friendship, and trade-economic ties. We share a common perspective and assessment of global developments. In addition, we aim to deepen our political cooperation. We have a clear plan. I am confident that in the near future we will reach concrete agreements and see positive results. We are ready to work diligently within the framework of our partnership. Jordan is a friendly country for us, and our nations have much in common,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, inviting King Abdullah II to visit Kazakhstan.
In recent years, trade and economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Jordan has shown positive dynamics, reflected in both total trade turnover and exports. In 2021, Kazakhstan’s exports amounted to USD 0.1 million, while in 2024 they reached USD 3.7 million, increasing 37 times. The bilateral trade turnover last year totaled USD 6.3 million.
TALKS TO ELEVATE PARTNERSHIP TO A NEW LEVEL
Yesterday, narrow-format talks were held at Akorda between President Tokayev and King Abdullah II. The President thanked the King for accepting the invitation to Astana and warmly recalled his visit to Amman earlier this year. “Your Majesty, welcome to Kazakhstan! Your official visit is a great honor for us. This is not your first visit to our country. You closely follow Kazakhstan’s current development path. Several issues need to be addressed on the bilateral agenda. Yesterday, we held substantive discussions on bilateral relations and the international agenda. I highly appreciate your deep understanding of global affairs. Today we have ample opportunity to continue our exchange of views. Bilateral cooperation between Jordan and Kazakhstan is developing successfully. However, there are issues that require thorough discussion,” said the President.
King Abdullah II emphasized the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations and confirmed his readiness to enhance trade and economic cooperation. “Your Majesty, dear brother, thank you for your kind words and warm reception. This visit is a continuation of my successful visit to your country several months ago. Kazakhstan is very close to me. Each time I am here, I am impressed by how systematically your country is developing under your leadership. As you noted, yesterday we exchanged views on developing cooperation between our countries in various fields. I am confident that my visit today will open a new chapter in the history of strong friendship between Kazakhstan and Jordan,” stated the King of Jordan.
