On May 15, 2025, the international scientific and practical conference “120 years of Kazakh veterinary science: achievements and new challenges in ensuring biological safety”, dedicated to the anniversary of the Kazakh Scientific Research Veterinary Institute (KazSRVI), one of the country’s oldest scientific institutions, began in Almaty.

representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, deputies of the Mazhilis of Parliament, the President of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, representatives of international organizations and scientific centers, experts in the field of biological safety and veterinary medicine, as well as industry veterans.

The conference was attended by the Adviser to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Science and Innovation, the Minister of Health, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, deputies of the Mazhilis of Parliament, the President of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as leading scientists and experts in the field of veterinary medicine and biological safety from Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Tajikistan, USA, Switzerland, Italy, South Korea and China.

The Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akmaral Alnazarova noted:

“This anniversary is a significant event not only for the staff of the Institute, but also for the entire Kazakh science. KazNIVI, founded in 1905, became the first scientific institution in the country and remains the fundamental structure standing at the origins of the national scientific school. The Institute’s laboratories have successfully passed the ISO 17025 international standard accreditation, which has opened up opportunities for expanding cooperation with the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and other foreign partners.”

General Director of the National Holding Company “QazBioPharm” Yergali Abduraimov emphasized:

KazNIVI became the first scientific institution to develop national programs for the control of diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease, brucellosis and leukemia. The Institute has introduced new methods of diagnosis and prevention of infectious diseases of farm animals into veterinary practice. Today, about 30 drugs developed by the institute have been registered, and more than 10 new solutions are being introduced annually.”

As part of the event:

a presentation of the anniversary book about the history and achievements of the institute took place;
an exhibition of scientific developments, vaccines and diagnostic drugs prepared by KazNIVI, subsidiaries of the holding and conference partners was organized.
The first day of the event demonstrated the strong connection between science and practice, public policy and the biosafety system. On the second day, it is planned to continue discussions and adopt a final resolution.

KazSRVI was founded in 1905 and is one of the oldest scientific institutions in Kazakhstan. Since 2023, the Institute has been working as part of the National Holding Company “QazBioPharm” and conducts fundamental research in the field of biosafety, epizootology, vaccinology and diagnostics.
