Erkin Ermekovich Durumbetov was born on November 25, 1951 in the Zhambyl region. He is Kazakh by nationality. In 1974, he completed his studies at the Karaganda State Medical Institute.

Work experience:

1974-1990 – worked in the healthcare sector of the Zhambyl region, holding various positions, including a physician-methodologist, head of the department, deputy chief physician of the regional sanitary and epidemiological service and chief epidemiologist.

1990-1994 – head of the department for the organization of medical care in Almaty in the Ministry of Health of the Kazakh SSR, then head of the Republican House of Health.

1994-1996 – head of the Health Department of the Almaty region.

1996-1999 – Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the country.

1999-2009 – held various leadership positions in the healthcare system of the Republic of Kazakhstan, including Deputy Chairman of the Health Committee, First Deputy Director of the Astana Health Department, Head of the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of the Almaty Region.

2009-2015 – Head of the Almaty Health Department, then Head of the Department for Consumer Rights Protection.

2016-2019 – headed the centers for sanitary and epidemiological expertise and monitoring under the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Since February 2019 – Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Research Institute of Cardiology and Internal Medicine.

Academic degrees and awards:

Erkin Ermekovich is a candidate of medical sciences, a master of business administration, an academician of the Academy of Medical and Technical Sciences of the Russian Federation. Awarded the Order of “Kurmet”, medals of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Armenia, orders of “Pirogov” and “Hippocrates” of Russia, excellent worker in healthcare of the USSR and Kazakh SSR. Also has badges of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan: “Densaulyk saktau isine koskan ulesi ushin”, “Kazakhstan Republics densaulyk saktau isine uzdigi”.
