International Dialogue on Biological Safety: A New Perspective on Threats and Protective Measures

On December 12–13, 2024, an international conference dedicated to biological safety and pharmaceutical developments took place in St. Petersburg. This large-scale event brought together representatives from 26 countries. Kazakhstan was represented by the Director General of the National Holding “QazBioPharm,” Mr. Yergali Orynbasarovich Abdurayimov, and the Chairperson of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Control Committee of the Ministry of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ms. Sarkhat Sagintayevna Beisenova.

The conference focused on the risks of emerging new types of particularly dangerous infections and the challenges posed by the development of new pathogens within modern biological systems. Experts emphasized the need to strengthen biological safety measures and highlighted the importance of enhancing international cooperation in this area.

As part of the conference, Yergali Abdurayimov delivered a presentation titled “Kazakhstan’s Experience in Combating the COVID-19 Pandemic.” In his speech, he showcased the achievements and research outcomes of QazBioPharm and its subsidiaries, as well as innovative vaccine production methods. Special attention was given to the development of Kazakhstan’s biological safety system.

The conference provided specialists with a platform to exchange expertise and collaborate on joint solutions to ensure biological safety.
